We sit and sometimes talk. Sometimes we don’t. We just sit together and listen to the road. There are certain combinations of persons, feelings, situations that don’t need words. The silence is easy as a feather, explanations are heavy.
We all know and feel that it will not last forever. We know it and seldom admit it: the day will come when the silence will be empty, the day when a look will only be a look, the day when you will feel alone when the two of you are together. You know it will come, because is has happened so many times before. As the taste of a chewing gum disappears, the passion slowly fades away and leaves you naked and vulnerable, as you feel in your nightmares.
Must all things come to an end? Must I accept once and for all the cynical calculus “Love lasts for three years”?
Three years – you want my two cents? Who said that anyway*? Cause it’s impossible! Love can’t possibly last less then Britney’s career!! I mean, she hasn’t even released a best of album , has she? Give love that much, come on! Can’t we love a person longer than a pop star’s European Tour? What the hell?!
I try to sort things according to their duration. Shivers down your spine, a kiss, a song, a vacation, marriage, love. You don’t know how long they last. It depends on so many things. What about that kissing contest – where couples kiss for days? Or the 12 hours marriages in Vegas? And the uncut “Thriller” video – that’s a long song! 🙂 You never know!
We can focus on the present, don’t let our fears overwhelm us, stop the wishful thinking and take every moment for what it is. A post made me think about my pessimism and I’m not happy with what I realised. Why do we believe that all things must come to an end?? Or, even worse, that all good things must come to an end?
What if this way of thinking has destroyed “happily ever after”? We hope too much, we project our fears and wishes and then get disappointed. We make plans in our heads and expect reality to follow. We even study those chemicals that make us fall in love and find a cure**! How sick is that?
We listen to eternal silly pop music and get heart broken every three years? Give me a break. I say love lasts at least as long as the Rolling Stones ! I mean, you never know… Keep the faith and seize the day moment! later edit: andreiard corrected me, as I corrected him a while ago, saying that a day is too long and difficult to be “seized”.
*Don’t answer that, I know who said it. Thank you!
**Don’t go telling me there isn’t a cure and stuff, it was just a figure of speech, mkay?
And yes, I’m back. What did you expect? 😛 The short break was exactly what I needed. I’m ready to post again.

10/09/2006 at 1:53 PMNow that is an optimistic point of view.
Much more optimistic than what I had to hear one day. “We know each other too well. We have enjoyed talking for hours. We know almost everything. You like to use quotes from Gilmore Girls and will eventually finish Ulysses. I would have liked to be a bobo and I appreciate Tori Amos not only because she made the only cover after Smells like teen spirit. Probably, after a week we will be bored. So why even bother trying?!”.
Something smells fishy. We are going to screw it up too soon.
Conclusion: Buried before it even started.
Welcome back. 🙂

10/09/2006 at 1:56 PMMiss Cliche,
Firstly, *big hug*!
Secondly, I know the “why even bother” theory and we must overcome it.
Love must outlive Justin Timber-f***ing-lake! 😀

10/09/2006 at 7:13 PMYou will grow old (soon 25, an eternity) and die. Before passing away, the only thing you’ll remember will be those three seconds, three months, three days, three years, you name it. I guess it’s worth a try 🙂
