About the Conference and corporate blogs

Radu tells us Jeremy Wright is 27 years old. Also, here is a nice picture from the Conference 😀

On the same event:
1. I found out that tags are important. I have never used tags, I don’t really know how they work and how to use them. I have to google that! 🙂

2. I liked that Jeremy talked about:

a). the reasons journalists write blogs. Most people assume we get tired of writing at work, but the truth is that most journalists are constrained t write about certain things and seldom get the chance to go behind the headlines. Blogs give us the chance to write about what we are passionate about in our own manner.

b). the moment when someone should STOP blogging. Andrei was telling me that, in his opinion, no blogger will ever be able to stop: you can take a break, but once a blogger, always a blogger! Well, I tend to agree with him, but Jeremy had a point: when it stops being fun, when it’s a huge pressure, when it takes over your life – you should leave the building – at least for a while. That’s what Jeremy did when he had a million visitors a day. He lost 75% of his audience, but he was happier after the break!
Although most bloggers agree that Jeremy should have addressed to the bloggers and not the innocent masses who have no clue what blogging is, I’d say the bloggers present at the Conference were not all marketing oriented. So his approach, a general one, was well chosen.

We don’t have corporate blogs and a more specific approach would have been too much for the “innocent”. The good news is, although it has nothing to do with the Conference, that some firms are starting blogs. And I’m not talking about Hotnews and EvZ, where journalists write columns and news, but a real corporate blog, in which the employees write things about their work and that really gives a human face to a firm and makes you want to work there [ like the Google blog which I loooove 🙂 ] – it’s….

We get to read posts signed by programmers, managers and it definitely gives a human face to the company, don’t you think? 🙂

I think everyday about quitting my blog because it didn’t bring me the satisfactions I imagined it would. Then I remember why I started blogging in the first place: not necessarily to entertain an audience nor to offer insights into the lifestyle of a Romanian gay guy, but to record my own experiences – at least those which I find relevant to me – in order to assess how much I’ve grown on a personal level and how I’ve come to make certain decisions that would change the course of my life.

From this point of view, I think that blogging is very useful to me. I would recommend it though only to people interested in self-introspection and creative writing. Otherwise, it can be a waste of time.

Cosmin, still haven’t fixed it yet? It’s been “out of order” for a day now…
I shouldyours isn’t that “coporate”, but mroe personal. Which is great! I love that too, but there are different categories of corporate blogs and we’re getting into something I know little about. So I’ll just stop right here 😀

Musculin, I see your point ov view. Still, we have to take into account the difference between a personal and a corporate blog and the diffecence between the objectives of the blog.

I agree with your decision, in your case. But others don’t write for themselves, but for the fun of it or because of the prestige it brings – and when those stop, the blog is pointless. Don’t you think?

OK. Sorry, Andressa, I didn’t realize you were referring exclusively to corporate blogs.

Luckily, I don’t work for any corporation.

I don’t work. Period. I’m too lazy! Though I admire those like you who actually do something to make the world a better place.
